Group things by routine
Start with what you reach for most often. Keep walking essentials together near your usual exit, spare bedding close to the laundry and playtime items in one easy-to-find spot. Use storage you already own before buying anything new. A drawer, shelf or labelled container may be enough. Choose a system that everyone in the household can understand without asking where things belong.
Separate ready-to-use items
Give clean, dry belongings their own place, with a separate spot for items waiting to be washed. Check each product’s care instructions, and let washed items dry before putting them away. Store leads and toys requiring supervision where pets cannot help themselves. During your tidy-up, inspect toys and remove damaged items from use.
Make the reset easy
At the end of the day, return everyday items to their places. Keep a short list of anything that needs replacing, so you can check what you already have before shopping. Adjust the system when it becomes awkward: frequently used belongings should be straightforward for you to reach and put away. The best arrangement is one you can comfortably keep using.
