A Simple Play Routine for Your Cat

Make room for everyday play with a flexible routine, a few well-chosen toys and time to notice what your cat enjoys.

Start with a familiar moment

Choose a moment when you can give your cat your attention, perhaps after your morning coffee or before your evening wind-down. Offer a toy and see whether they want to join in. Some cats enjoy chasing; others prefer watching, stalking and pouncing. Let their interest guide the session rather than treating playtime as another task to finish. If they walk away, leave the invitation open for later.

Keep the selection simple

You don’t need every toy out at once. Choose a small selection suited to your cat’s size and play style, and rotate some of them occasionally. Notice which shapes and movements attract their attention. Keeping a favourite in the mix gives you a useful starting point when trying something different.

Finish with a quick check

Supervise toy play and check for damage, loose pieces or wear. Remove anything that starts coming apart, and store toys requiring supervision securely after use. A quick check before putting everything away makes the next session easier to organise.
